The Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, has charged security agencies, traditional rulers and religious leaders in the local government to remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The Chairman gave the charge during the monthly security meeting held in Oyo East Local Government, where heads and representatives of various security agencies briefed stakeholders on security developments and activities within the local government.
Speaking at the meeting, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Durbar Police Division, Oyo, Adeyeye Ayotope, commended the Chairman for his proactive approach to security matters. He gave an update on the activities of the police and narrated the efforts made by his men to rescue a kidnap victim. He also cautioned residents to remain alert and take security information seriously.
The Oyo East Coordinator of the Amotekun Corps, Salam Opeyemi, appreciated the Chairman for providing a new motorcycle to support their operations. He also reported an attempted kidnapping incident in Awusan Village, noting that the attempt was foiled through the intervention of security personnel.
Representing the Area Commander, Adio Olumuyiwa, another security representative appreciated the Chairman for his support towards security agencies and the relative peace being enjoyed by residents of Oyo East. He, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly in view of increasing political activities in the area.
The Commandant of the Forest Hunters, Taoreed, also expressed appreciation to the Chairman for the motorcycle provided to enhance their operations. He gave an account of the activities of the Forest Hunters, including the apprehension of suspected robbers.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) representative, Babatunde Samuel, spoke on the ongoing road construction projects across Oyo and urged motorists and Okada riders to exercise caution and observe traffic regulations around construction areas.
Representing the Nigerian Correctional Service, Fatunmbi Oludele, appreciated the Chairman for his support and provided an update on the inmate population at the Oyo Correctional Centre. He stated that the centre currently has 383 inmates, including 77 inmates who have been sentenced and 305 awaiting judgment, according to the figures presented at the meeting.
The representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Temitope Olumide, sensitised participants on the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), explaining that the law provides mechanisms for the forfeiture of assets allegedly acquired through unlawful means.
The representative of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Yinusq T. A., also appreciated the Chairman and highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between relevant agencies in protecting the wellbeing of residents.
Captain A. O. Adeleke of Operation Burst welcomed participants and informed the meeting about the newly established brigade and garrison in Oyo, stressing the importance of continued collaboration among security formations.
The Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Oyo East Local Government, Mrs. Funmilola Akinrinde, appreciated all the security agencies for their continued support and cooperation with the local government administration.
In his address, the Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, appreciated all the security agencies for their commitment, sacrifices and continuous support towards maintaining peace and security in the local government.
Hon. Oluokun charged the security agencies, traditional rulers and religious leaders to remain up and doing in the discharge of their responsibilities. He urged them to intensify their collaboration and promptly respond to security threats within their respective areas.
The Chairman also warned individuals who may attempt to undermine or sabotage the collective efforts of security agencies to maintain peace, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a shared responsibility.
Hon. Oluokun stated that the security initiatives and interventions of his administration are in line with the security and development policies of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Oyo East Local Government and ensuring that residents can go about their legitimate activities in a peaceful and secure environment.
