Oyo Education Commissioner Mourns WAEC Candidate Killed By Stray Bullet, Vows Justice
The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, has expressed deep condolences to the family of the student killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a police officer in Ibadan.
The commissioner, speaking through the Permanent Secretary IGE Zone II, Ms. Yemi Ojo, made the statement during a condolence visit by the Ministry of Education’s management team to the bereaved family at their residence in Ibadan.

Describing the incident as both tragic and unacceptable, Hon. Olayiwola condemned the indiscriminate firing of bullets in public areas. He assured the family that a thorough investigation would be launched immediately to prevent such incidents in the future.

“This kind of tragedy is completely avoidable. The lives of our children must be protected at all costs,” he said.

Hon. Olayiwola also pledged the state government’s support to the grieving family, assuring them that those responsible would be held accountable. He offered prayers for divine comfort and strength for the family during their time of sorrow.

In an emotional response, the father of the deceased expressed appreciation for the prompt intervention by the state government and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology but lamented his unbearable loss.
“For the past seven years since my wife left, I’ve been solely responsible for raising my children. And now, death has taken him from me. This is painful beyond words. I don’t know if I can bear it,” he said tearfully.
The tragic incident has drawn public outrage, with many calling for justice and better control of law enforcement activities, especially around school zones.
